The restaurant down stairs is wonderful with an excellent menu and you won't starve. Yes! You've guessed it, we ain't youngsters. The corner bath could do with a hand rail as it was a little scary getting in and out of. Only problem is that you will have to plug the kettle in next to the bed. Over in the corner was a unit with the usual cups and tea pot, and a kettle. Now back to the Hotel, the rooms are very comfortable ( room 3) had a large leather settee under the front window. They do an excellent egg & bacon deal called a mini breakfast. Don't be put because you will not get a breakfast in the hotel, instead you will get a discount of 50% to use in the Blue Boar Dele which is next door. This place is perfect with a touch of class. Went to to visit my Brother in law and his family, and he booked us into the Blue Boar Hotel in Abridge. It was only the Groupon Voucher that turned out to be a “con” that prompted us to go there. Frankly, there are better restaurants in the area giving much better value.

We will NOT be returning to the Blue Boar. Regretfully, NO lamb shank was available to my Wife. Maria’s Review of the 10 December 2018 includes “For mains we had the fish and chips and the lamb shank”. On returning home, I looked at the Reviews on Groupon. On finishing our meal, my Wife visited the “ladies”. As the value of our coffee/cappuccino was much less than the Bellini drinks, this was not difficult). Having driven 12 miles from home, and not wishing to disappoint my Wife who by now was keen to have lunch, we placed our order (coffee/cappuccino instead of the Bellini drinks, breaded mushrooms, cauliflower soup, fish & chips, sirloin steak (the manager waived the £5 surcharge. She said that the restricted Groupon menu was determined by her Directors, and, if my Wife wanted the lamb shank, I would have to pay for it, and there was nothing she could do, but, I could leave and take up the matter with Groupon.

I explained the situation to the Manager and said that my Wife would like the lamb shank which is shown on the full menu, but not on the Groupon menu. The waitress said that she would get the manager who came to our table. I told the waitress that our Groupon Voucher stated “Value £78” which is more than sufficient to cover the items that we would like from the full menu. This menu is very restricted and many of the items require a supplement to be paid. However, when I said that we had a Groupon Voucher (I had mentioned this when I made the booking), the menu was rapidly retrieved and, surprisingly, we were given the special menu for Groupon. We were shown to our table and given the menu which corresponded with that shown on the web.

On entering the restaurant, as required, I entered our car registration number (the recording machine was having difficulty initially). I booked our table “on line” (no one answered the ‘phone when I rang). The top left hand corner of our Groupon Voucher stated “Value £78” so having looked at the pricey “on line” menu, it seemed to be a reasonable deal. Unfortunately, when we arrived for lunch, the car park was almost full, but, with difficulty, I managed to reverse my car into the penultimate available space (apparently there was a seminar taking place in the hotel).
